Valero has always been one of those brands that work hard to produce a generic version of everything you go to convenience stores for. They have generic coffee drinks, generic energy drinks, generic packaged foods and coffees and car stuff. After years of selling energy shots Valero has come out with their own version, released under their Uforce brand.
Packaging:4
Their shots look decent enough, if not terribly generic. They used the standard 5 Hour energy rip-off bottle with the 2 ounces of liquid, tiny opening and a plastic wrap that acts as a safety seal. This probably took their design team about 15 minutes of work with the photoshop outline tool and some lightning zaps in the background. Not that it is bad looking, it is just what you would expect from a company doing generic energy shots. All it really needs is the work Xtreme somewhere to cap off the pandering.
In terms of functionality, U Force needs some help as well. There is no listing of caffeine content, or how much of any of their energy mix they have. They list their amino acid blend in there, along with citicoline, but this is buried in their ingredients and should have more prominence.
Taste:2
U Force energy shots come in two flavors, a generic berry flavor that tastes like berry acid, and a grape flavor that tastes like grape acid. Both taste uncommonly bad, like if vinegars came in special slightly sweet fruity flavors. They are worse than most of the standard energy products out there - like they really did not want to bother themselves coming out with anything that tasted decent for fear of competing with the real energy shots they sell.
The important thing to remember with these shots is that they settle too. You got to shake these vigorously or it will taste even worse. When you finally have enough of the yuckiness and just shoot it past your taste buds, it makes the back of your moth tingle - and not in a good way. it does not really burn inasmuch as it singes the back of your mouth and leaves the aftertaste of too much crabapple in your mouth. Sour Sour Sour.
Buzz:7
Thing is, it works - even if the ride is short lived. My guess is there is 120+mg of caffeine in here - enough to get you pumped if even for a short time. I ended up slamming the bottle because it tasted so bad - so the rush came on quite quickly. There was definitely enough energy to really feel it - and of that I am appreciative. Still, for the two bucks it cost for the shot, I feel like there are dozens of choices out there which are a bit easier to swallow.
